President Trump Appoints Jeanine Pirro as Interim U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C.

President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he has selected Fox News host Jeanine Pirro to serve as the temporary head of the largest U.S. Attorney’s office in the nation’s capital. This decision comes after Trump withdrew his initial nominee, conservative activist Ed Martin Jr., from consideration for the position.
Pirro, a former county prosecutor and judge, has a long history of legal experience. She cohosts the popular show “The Five” on Fox News and has served as a judge in New York’s Westchester County Court. Trump praised Pirro’s qualifications, calling her one of the top District Attorneys in the history of the State of New York.
While Pirro’s appointment is temporary, Trump did not rule out the possibility of nominating her for the permanent position, subject to Senate confirmation. This decision comes after key Republican senators expressed concerns about Martin’s defense of Capitol rioters on January 6, 2021.
Pirro’s appointment is the latest in a series of Trump administration hires from Fox News, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Fox News Media issued a statement expressing support for Pirro in her new role.
As the temporary U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Pirro will bring a wealth of courtroom experience to the position. She has led domestic violence units in prosecutor’s offices and has a strong legal background.
Despite her temporary appointment, Pirro’s selection marks a significant change in leadership for the U.S. Attorney’s office in Washington, D.C. Her tenure will begin on May 20, following Martin’s departure from the role.
