Washington:
President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he is anticipating a meeting with King Charles III in Britain in September. This second state visit, a historic event, is aimed at strengthening the ties between the two nations.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer presented Trump with an invitation from the monarch during a meeting in the Oval Office back in February. The invitation was part of efforts to address issues such as tariffs and the situation in Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters, Trump mentioned, “I think they’re setting a date for September. They’re going to do a second ‘fest.’ And that’s what it is, it’s a fest, and it’s beautiful, and it’s the first time it’s ever happened to one person.” He also expressed his admiration for King Charles and the royal family, mentioning Prince William as well.
According to a report in Britain’s Daily Telegraph, Trump is set to be hosted by the royal family at Windsor Castle, a historic residence near London. This visit will mark Trump as the first political leader to receive a second state visit to Britain, following his initial visit in 2019 during his first term as president.
Trump, who has always been a vocal supporter of the British royal family, has a special connection to the UK as his mother was born in Scotland, where he also owns a golf course.
