Your guide to what Trump’s second term means for Washington, business and the world

Donald Trump announced that a high-level round of trade talks between the US and China is set to take place on Monday in London. This comes as both countries work towards stabilizing their strained economic relations.

The announcement follows a phone call between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, where they agreed to work towards resolving the ongoing trade war that has been impacting global financial markets.

“I am pleased to announce that Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and United States Trade Representative, Ambassador Jamieson Greer, will be meeting in London on Monday, June 9, 2025, with Representatives of China, with reference to the Trade Deal,” Trump revealed in a Truth Social post on Friday.

“The meeting should go very well. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

This is a developing story

In the latest development in the US-China trade war, President Donald Trump has disclosed plans for key trade negotiations between the two countries in London. The talks, scheduled for Monday, aim to address the ongoing economic tensions between the US and China.

Following a recent discussion with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump took to Truth Social to announce the upcoming meeting. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer are set to engage with Chinese representatives in London to discuss the Trade Deal.

The decision to hold talks in London signifies the urgency with which both nations are seeking to resolve their trade disputes and stabilize the global economy. The outcome of these negotiations could have far-reaching implications for businesses and markets worldwide.
