Donald Trump often delegates unpopular tasks to his vice president, JD Vance, who is left to address the public on these issues. Following the announcement of a Department of Justice (DOJ) slush fund intended to benefit Trump’s supporters involved in or under investigation for criminal activities, Vance took to the podium in the Brady Briefing Room to answer inquiries from reporters regarding the controversial fund.
Vance faced a pointed question:
Regarding the $1.8 billion DOJ fund, many Americans are struggling with the cost of groceries and high gas prices. People are making personal sacrifices due to rising costs and financial uncertainty. How do you justify allocating this amount of taxpayer money to the fund while Americans are facing such difficulties? What would you say to those who are unable to afford basic necessities and question the prioritization of this fund?
Vance’s response was criticized for lacking empathy and warmth. He addressed the question by stating:
First, it’s important to clarify that we’re not simply issuing a $1.8 billion check. The fund will be used to evaluate claims of government mistreatment on a case-by-case basis. If it is determined that individuals were indeed treated unjustly, providing them with appropriate compensation is reasonable.
Vance further asserted that despite perceptions of the administration being led by someone who often appears disengaged publicly, they are capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously, even if those tasks include considerable controversy.
