Trump Calls for Resumption of Nuclear Testing Amid New Arms Race Fears
President Trump recently made a bold statement regarding the need to update the U.S. nuclear arsenal, citing the “tremendous destructive power” of nuclear weapons. He emphasized that China’s growing nuclear capabilities could pose a significant threat within the next five years, prompting the urgent need for modernization.
This decision represents a significant departure from the longstanding policy established by former President George H.W. Bush, who implemented a moratorium on nuclear testing following the conclusion of the Cold War.
However, tensions have escalated with Russia announcing successful tests of two new weapons capable of carrying nuclear warheads, including a missile designed to penetrate U.S. defense systems.
