President Trump Issues Warning to Nigeria Over Attacks on Christians

President Donald Trump took to social media on Saturday night to threaten Nigeria with military force if they do not stop Islamic extremists from killing Christians in the country.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria and may go into the country ‘guns-a-blazing’ to wipe out the Islamic Terrorists responsible for these atrocities.”

He further instructed the Department of War to prepare for possible action, emphasizing that any attack would be swift and vicious, similar to the attacks on Christians by terrorist groups.

The threat came after the U.S. State Department placed Nigeria on the “Countries of Particular Concern” list for failing to secure religious freedom for its citizens.

According to a report by Intersociety, over 7,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria in the first 220 days of 2025, with more than 125,000 Christians slaughtered and 19,000 churches destroyed since the insurgency by Boko Haram Islamists began in 2009.

In response to being included on the list, Nigeria pledged to defend all citizens regardless of their faith. The Nigerian Foreign Ministry stated, “Nigeria will continue to celebrate its diversity as its greatest strength.”

Senator Ted Cruz introduced the “Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act of 2025” to protect religious minorities in Nigeria. The bill aims to impose sanctions on officials who facilitate violence against Christians and enforce sharia or blasphemy laws.

The Nigerian government has affirmed its commitment to religious freedom, tolerance, and diversity, in line with the international order.
