The electorate, particularly those hesitant yet hopeful voters who opted for Donald Trump in the 2024 elections, expected to usher in a new era of economic reliefâparticularly lower inflation and reduced pricesâbased on Trumpâs bold proclamations.
What they appear to be receiving instead is a veritable parade of unpredictability.

As Congress teeters on the brink of a government shutdown, the primary obstacle is Trumpâs unwillingness to negotiate with Democratic lawmakers, thereby securing the necessary votes to maintain governmental operations.
An impending shutdown is set to inflict economic repercussions of substantial magnitude. Yet, in a startling twist, Trump announced additional tariffs through his social media platform, signaling an inclination to escalate the economic dilemma further.
Trump stated:
âBeginning October 1, 2025, we will impose a 100% Tariff on any branded or patented pharmaceutical product, unless a company is actively constructing a manufacturing plant in the United States. The term âactively constructingâ will apply to those who have broken ground and/or are currently under construction. Only pharmaceutical products where construction has commenced will be exempt from these tariffs. Thank you for your attention to this matter!â
In an effort to diversify his tariff strategy, Trump also targeted the home improvement industry:
âStarting October 1, 2025, we will impose a 50% Tariff on all kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and associated items. A 30% Tariff will also be applied to upholstered furniture, as we face an overwhelming influx of these products from foreign countries. This practice is undeniably unjust; hence, we are compelled to protect our manufacturing sector for reasons relating to national security and beyond. I appreciate your diligence regarding this announcement!â
Moreover, Trump plans to extend these tariffs to heavy truck manufacturing, seemingly oblivious to the broader implications these tariffs might inflict on the very sector he’s attempting to safeguard.
On the same day the government shuts downâa crisis intricately linked to his actionsâthis very president will also orchestrate an increase in prescription drug prices.
