President Donald Trump’s Justice Department has reportedly dropped a criminal bribery investigation into border czar Tom Homan, as per a recent report from MSNBC.
Homan, who has vowed to increase immigration enforcement in various major cities as the nation’s top immigration official, was under investigation for allegedly accepting $50,000 in cash from FBI agents posing as business executives seeking government contracts in Trump’s potential second term, MSNBC reported.
The federal investigation was initiated in western Texas in the summer of 2024 after an individual involved in a separate investigation claimed that Homan was soliciting payments in exchange for contract awards if Trump won the presidential election. This information was disclosed in an internal summary of the probe from the Justice Department, which was reviewed by MSNBC and individuals familiar with the case. The U.S. Attorney’s office in the Western District of Texas, in collaboration with the FBI, requested the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section to join the ongoing investigation “into the Border Czar and former Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Tom Homan and others, based on evidence of payments from FBI undercover agents in exchange for facilitating future contracts related to border enforcement.”
The investigation into Homan reportedly came to a standstill after Trump assumed office in January. Recently, Trump appointees officially closed the investigation following a request for a status update on the case from FBI Director Kash Patel, according to sources cited by MSNBC.
In a statement provided to MSNBC, Patel and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the allegations against Homan underwent a thorough review by FBI agents and Justice Department prosecutors.
“They did not find any credible evidence of criminal wrongdoing,” the statement emphasized. “The Department’s focus should be on genuine threats to the American people, not unfounded investigations. Consequently, the investigation has been concluded.”
