During the latest episode of “Saturday Night Live” on Dec. 20, James Austin Johnson delivered a hilarious parody of President Trump in his holiday address. Johnson’s portrayal of the controversial president took aim at recent events, including Trump’s primetime address, the release of more Epstein files, and the announcement of the “Patriot Games” for elite high school athletes.

In the cold open sketch, Johnson-as-Trump humorously announced the launch of his own version of the Hunger Games called “Patriot Games” for high school athletes. He quipped, “What’s the best way to distract from the Epstein files? I know, invite a bunch of teenagers to my house!” The satirical take on the president’s unconventional decisions and distractions provided a comedic twist on the current political climate.

Trump’s dismissive attitude towards the nation’s economic concerns was also highlighted in the sketch. He reassured the public by stating, “The economy is fine, all right? The economy’s fine. It’s getting closer to fine. Indigo Girls. They were one of my favorite lesbian folk rock duos. I believe that was Melissa Etheridge and, I want to say, Elton John.” This humorous take on Trump’s economic policies added to the comedic tone of the sketch.

Another comedic moment in the sketch was Trump’s announcement of renaming the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to the Trump Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Trump jokingly explained, “People are saying, ‘Why are you putting your name on so many buildings?’ And I say it’s because we had to take it off of so many files, Epstein redacted. We had so many Trumps in there!” This playful jab at Trump’s ego and penchant for self-promotion added to the humor of the sketch.
