Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic recently penned an eye-opening piece detailing a rather alarming incident where officials from the Trump administration inadvertently included him in a group chat on Signal, discussing sensitive military operations in Yemen.
The level of incompetence displayed is staggering, so it was hardly shocking when Trump was peppered with questions about this blunder during a White House press briefing.
A reporter queried, “What is your reaction to the article in The Atlantic, which claimed that some of your highest-ranking cabinet members and aides were discussing sensitive information via Signal, and accidentally included a reporter?”
Trump’s response was characteristically dismissive: “I don’t know anything about it. I’m not particularly fond of The Atlantic. In my opinion, it’s a magazine that’s on its way out. I think it lacks substance, but I truly know nothing about this incident.”
Attempting to clarify, the reporter pressed on, “You’re suggesting that they were using Signal to coordinate on sensitive matters.”
Trump, seemingly bewildered by the concept of Signal, asked, “Regarding what? What were they discussing? With the Houthis?”
He continued, “The Houthis? Are you referring to the attack on the Houthis? If so, it couldn’t have been too effective because the attack was quite successful. I can assure you of that. This is the first I’ve heard of it.”
