Donald Trump faced strong criticism on Monday for his comments regarding sinking Iranian ships.
Speaking to House Republicans at his Doral golf course, the president praised U.S.-Israeli military operations in Iran, stating that the “enemy” was being defeated through a show of technical skill and military force.
He boasted about the destruction of Iran’s drone and missile capabilities, claiming that the Iranian navy had been completely wiped out.
“The navy is no more. It’s all resting at the bottom of the ocean. Forty-six ships, can you imagine? I even questioned our strategy, asking why we didn’t capture the ships instead of sinking them. The response was that it’s more enjoyable to sink them,” Trump said, prompting laughter from the audience.
“They prefer sinking them. They believe it’s safer. We took out 46 ships in just three and a half days.”
Critics condemned Trump’s remarks as “disgusting,” “grotesque,” and “sadistic,” with some suggesting that they could lead to international repercussions. Reports indicate that over 100 individuals were killed in a recent U.S. attack on an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka.
