Tubi is set to welcome 250 episodes of “Sesame Street,” featuring beloved characters like Elmo and Cookie Monster, to its free streaming platform.
Beginning on Wednesday, April 1, Tubi will introduce 250 episodes of “Sesame Street” covering the series’ history up to Season 38, thanks to a partnership with Sesame Workshop. Tubi has announced that 10% of the episodes will be refreshed with new ones on a quarterly basis.
The episodes available on Tubi will include iconic moments such as “Gordon Introduces Sally to Sesame Street,” the inaugural episode from 1969; “Maria and Luis Get Married” from 1988; “R2-D2 and C-3PO Visit Sesame Street” (1980); and “Big Bird Goes to Hawaii” (1978), which marked one of the first major on-location remote shoots.
This move by Tubi provides another platform for accessing “Sesame Street” content. Netflix holds global streaming rights for current-season episodes and certain library content through a deal with Sesame Workshop. Additionally, YouTube recently made 100 episodes available for free. In the U.S., “Sesame Street” episodes can be watched on PBS stations and PBS Kids digital platforms on the same day they air. HBO Max continues to offer a wide selection of “Sesame Street” episodes to its U.S. subscribers.
“Few brands have shaped young minds and sparked imagination quite like Sesame Street,” stated Adam Lewinson, chief content officer at Tubi. “By bringing hundreds of episodes to Tubi for free, we’re giving today’s kids access to joyful, foundational learning while inviting parents to share a piece of their own childhood with the next generation. It’s a powerful example of how Tubi connects audiences through stories that stay with you for life, making meaningful, educational entertainment accessible to all.”
Joseph Giraldi, chief operating officer at Sesame Workshop, expressed excitement about expanding their reach through Tubi. “We are thrilled that our beloved characters and proven educational media will now be available to even more children, families and fans,” he said.
Tubi, a part of Fox Corp.’s Tubi Media Group, claims it offers the largest collection of premium on-demand content, featuring over 275,000 movies and TV episodes along with more than 300 exclusive originals. The company reports having over 97 million monthly active viewers.
