Brazil’s top open-TV network TV Globo is set to launch a new comedy show titled “Aberto ao Publico” on July 6. The show, created by comedian Mauricio Meirelles, will consist of four episodes airing on four consecutive Sunday nights. Directed by Gui Cintra and Daniel Nascimento, “Aberto ao Publico” will feature hosts Meirelles, Bruna Louise, Murilo Couto, and Thiago Ventura welcoming a guest celebrity in each episode.
Filmed in a theater in Sao Paulo with a live audience, the show will follow a stand-up comedy format where the audience interacts with the comedians and guests. This marks the first show created at the regional hubs recently established by Globo in various cities across Brazil to enhance the diversity of the network’s comedy programming.
These hubs, consisting of eight to ten indie comedians with diverse backgrounds in social media, stand-up, theater, and advertising, operate under the guidance of a Globo staff writer from the Comedy Division. The hubs, located in cities like São Paulo, Fortaleza, Goiania, Porto Alegre, and Rio, aim to tap into the unique comedy scenes and accents of different regions.
According to Amauri Soares, the exec director of TV Globo and Estudios Globo, producing comedy shows in today’s landscape is challenging due to the fragmented nature of the genre. By creating the hubs, Globo seeks to break down the barriers and collaborate with comedians from across Brazil to develop various types of programming, including series, TV movies, theatrical films, characters, and formats.
The announcement of “Aberto ao Publico” and the hub creation will be made during Globo’s panel at Rio2C, showcasing the network’s commitment to fostering comedy talent and expanding its reach beyond traditional production centers. Stay tuned for the premiere of “Aberto ao Publico” on TV Globo and witness the laughter and entertainment brought to you by Brazil’s finest comedians.
