Two 14-year-old boys have been charged with carjacking a Lyft driver at gunpoint and taking her vehicle on a cross-town joyride on Tuesday night, as reported by Chicago police. Both juveniles were also found to have active arrest warrants at the time of their apprehension.
Shortly before 9 p.m., the 48-year-old rideshare driver parked on the 7500 block of South Emerald Avenue in the Gresham neighborhood. Upon stopping, the woman’s male passenger requested a halt. Subsequently, a second individual approached her, brandishing a firearm. The armed perpetrator demanded the car keys and threatened to shoot her if she did not comply. Following the coercion, the gunman and the passenger fled the scene in the woman’s gray Toyota Corolla.
Chicago police were able to locate the stolen vehicle around 11 p.m. near the 1600 block of West Kinzie Street and apprehended both boys, according to CPD.
Both individuals are facing charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking.
Authorities disclosed that one of the boys had a single arrest warrant, while the other had three active arrest warrants. The latter was also implicated in an unrelated incident involving a shooting and attempted armed robbery. Further details regarding these crimes were not provided by CPD.

CWBChicago was established in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the inaccurate information presented at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings.
Our coverage has since expanded to include Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas. Nevertheless, our primary goal remains unchanged: to deliver original public safety reporting with enhanced context and depth compared to mainstream media outlets.
