Joy Machine is excited to showcase the collaborative duo exhibition titled “World in My Eyes” featuring Chicago artists Kayla Mahaffey and Joseph Perez, also known as Sentrock. Both artists have a deep connection to their Chicago neighborhoods and have a strong focus on depicting the lives of everyday people, especially children. They explore how children are raised, how their dreams are nurtured, and how they navigate through challenges in their environment.
In “World in My Eyes,” Sentrock’s iconic bird character interacts with Mahaffey’s vibrant characters, creating a unique and captivating visual narrative. The exhibition delves into the struggles faced by children and the importance of hope and courage in overcoming obstacles. Both artists emphasize that hope is not just a feeling but a deliberate practice that can lead to a brighter future.
The opening reception for “World in My Eyes” will take place on January 30th from 6 to 9 p.m. Guests can RSVP to attend the event and immerse themselves in the colorful and thought-provoking artwork of Mahaffey and Sentrock.
The exhibition features a series of paintings and drawings that showcase the artists’ distinct styles and storytelling abilities. Sentrock’s pieces often depict children wearing bird masks, symbolizing freedom and resilience, while Mahaffey’s artworks capture moments of joy and innocence in everyday life. Together, their works create a powerful narrative that celebrates the strength and resilience of youth in the face of adversity.
“World in My Eyes” invites viewers to reflect on the lives of children in challenging circumstances and the importance of nurturing hope and courage in the face of adversity. Through their art, Mahaffey and Sentrock inspire us to look at the world through the eyes of children and embrace the power of imagination and resilience.
