Two suspects were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the brutal baseball bat beating and stabbing of a Rhode Island man near Times Square. Alagie Jatta, 29, and Paul Ohore, 32, both residents of the Bronx, were taken into custody on warrants and charged with murder in the Nov. 24 attack on 23-year-old Daevon Silva.

Silva, a resident of Pawtucket, was assaulted with a baseball bat and then stabbed in the back and right thigh around 1 a.m. near West 49th Street and Seventh Avenue. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

The motive behind the attack is believed to be an act of retaliation for a previous incident that occurred the night before, although specific details on the previous altercation remain unclear. Sources suggest that at least one of the suspects knew Silva and that the confrontation escalated into a violent and deadly encounter. Initial reports also hinted at a possible drug-related motive.

Alagie Jatta, who has a history of five prior arrests, had been released from jail just a month before the Times Square attack. He had previously pleaded guilty to second-degree assault for stabbing his 55-year-old roommate in the Bronx in August 2023. The altercation stemmed from a dispute that prompted Jatta to pull out a knife and stab his roommate multiple times, resulting in serious injuries.

In addition to the assault charge, Jatta was also arrested in November 2023 for criminal possession of a loaded firearm. Paul Ohore, on the other hand, was last arrested in 2019 for driving with suspended registration and has two prior arrests for gun possession.

Silva, who had no criminal record in New York City, had a minor history of offenses in Rhode Island. The investigation into the tragic incident near Times Square continues as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to Silva’s untimely death.
