The Bronx was shaken by a shocking incident on Thursday afternoon when a gunman opened fire on a busy street, injuring two innocent teenagers and narrowly missing a bystander. The shooting took place in broad daylight in front of a five-story walk-up at 265 E. 176th St. in the Tremont section of the borough.
According to police reports, two 17-year-old boys were the victims of the shooting. One teen was shot in the right arm, while the other was struck in the neck. It appears that they were not the intended targets of the shooter, but rather caught in the crossfire. A third bystander, Christian Santos, 44, had a close call when a bullet pierced his parked Toyota Highlander, narrowly missing him as he had just stepped out of the vehicle.
Paramedics quickly arrived on the scene and transported the injured teens to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition. The suspect, described as a male dressed in all black, fled the scene on foot, and as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
This incident adds to the growing number of shooting victims in the 46th precinct this year. According to the most recent NYPD statistics, there have been 15 shooting victims and 12 shooting incidents in the area. While there has been a slight increase in these numbers compared to last year, overall shooting incidents in the Bronx are down by nearly 24%.
The Bronx community has been shaken by such senseless violence, especially following the tragic death of Evette Jeffrey, a 16-year-old innocent bystander who was shot and killed in May. The authorities are continuing their investigation into Thursday’s shooting, and residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help prevent further tragedies.
