Last night, a fire badly damaged a two-storey house near Rolleston. Fire and Emergency NZ crews responded to the house on Springston Rolleston Rd around 5.45pm on Thursday. Fortunately, no one was injured in the blaze, but the structure was already engulfed in flames when the crews arrived. Firefighters from various stations, including Lincoln, Rolleston, Wigram, Leeston, and Dunsandel, worked together to battle the fire, which they managed to contain before midnight.

The fire was initially reported by a Hato Hone St John ambulance crew who noticed black smoke from the road. They immediately called Fenz and investigated the cause of the smoke. Firefighters were able to save a classic car parked in the garage before the fire spread to the main structure. Thankfully, the occupants were not home at the time of the fire. A neighbor called them while they were out for dinner to inform them about the blaze.

Due to the intensity of the fire, firefighters were unable to enter the house initially. Part of the house collapsed shortly after their arrival. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
