Jun Takahashi’s latest collection for Undercover was a stunning display of gentle deconstruction and thoughtful renovation. The designer experimented with classic clothing recipes, creating subtly fresh and wearable flavors that can be likened to fashion fusion cuisine.

The show opened with a workwear jacket paired with cuffed track pants in light white cotton. Takahashi made subtle tweaks to the placket, seaming, collar shape, and fastenings, adding a unique twist to the classic pieces. A black dress pant was paired with a folded white T-shirt that hung from the waistline like a flounce, while suspender straps peeked out from the waistline of a black skirt. Denim jackets and pants were constructed from an asymmetric patchwork collage of fabrics, creating an attractively illogical fit.

Piano key stripes added a playful touch to a slashed back T-shirt layered over a silky blouse, and were also incorporated into the shoulders of a jersey cardigan. Hoodies and pants made from striped shirting fabric featured shirt construction details in the yolk and hem, offering a contemporary take on pajama dressing. Mixed material hemming created a trompe l’oeil effect on a denim shirt, while raised inserts on a hoodie subtly changed its silhouette. A brocade insert added a touch of surprise to an MA1 jacket, while a corseted LBD peeked out from within the facade of a maroon shirt.

As the show neared its end, a horizontally conjoined T-shirt, a jacket with a faux fur front and jersey panel back, and a camp collar shirt with viscose front and pleat inserts were showcased. The final phase of the collection featured a mournful floral print spliced with fragmented garment samples, creating a poignant and artistic impression. The season concluded with a gently eroticized black suit, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.

The designer’s attention to detail and creativity shone through in every look, making this collection a standout in the world of high fashion.
