In Romain Veillon’s latest project, titled Secret Gardens, the enchanting beauty of neglected greenhouses becomes the focal point. By journeying to forgotten locales, the French artist captures the essence of secluded places where human presence has faded.
Veillon’s focus on the interplay between inside and outside is central to his exploration of these abandoned horticultural spaces, where their boundaries blur. âIt’s paradoxical to observe that nature appears to have been confined and yet strives to liberate itself from its captor, revealing its indomitable spirit,â the photographer reflects in his series statement. âWe now find ourselves marveling at the flora that has merged with the confines of its enclosure.â
Veillonâs imagery is striking; it vividly illustrates nature’s sheer power to reclaim spaces abandoned by humans. While remnants of human influence linger in each frameâthrough cracked stained glass, corroded pipes, and an assortment of unused potsâthe overwhelming presence of vibrant vegetation serves as a poignant reminder that nature ultimately prevails over us.
