The civil trial of Coomer v Lindell et al. commenced this week in a federal courtroom in Colorado, setting the stage for a legal spectacle that has drawn significant attention. reported on the Order for Motions in Limine that was issued on Monday, detailing the judge’s decisions regarding the admissibility of evidence as requested by both parties.
On the following day, jury selection took place, where potential jurors were subjected to a series of probing questions about their familiarity with Mike Lindell and the trial’s media coverage. They were asked whether they believed the 2020 presidential elections were fraudulent and how they felt about the phrase “The Big Lie” concerning the integrity of those elections.
The jurors were also questioned about their social media habits: Did they have accounts on platforms like Truth Social or Parler? Were they followers of figures like Rudy Giuliani or Sidney Powell? Did they tune into Fox News or Newsmax during the 2020 election? Questions about public figures such as Tina Peters and Joe Oltmann, as well as events like the Cyber Symposium in August 2021, were also on the table, creating a context of heightened scrutiny.
Meanwhile, Coomer’s legal team filed a motion seeking a protective order concerning specific exhibits, including Coomer’s employee file, resignation documents, an “email string regarding referral from K2 Intelligence,” various emails and therapeutic materials, a settlement with Newsmax, and a separation agreement with Dominion Voting. As of now, the judge has not ruled on this motion.

Opening Statements
The trial kicked off with opening statements that set a dramatic tone. “You are disgusting. You are a traitor to the United States of America,” stated Charlie Cain, Coomer’s attorney, as he quoted Lindell. He portrayed Coomer as a dedicated Coloradan with military roots, emphasizing his long-standing residence in Denver since 1998 and shared outdoor passions with the local jury pool.
Cain elaborated on Coomer’s credentials as a high-ranking executive at Dominion Voting, asserting his commitment to electoral transparency and the existence of a paper trail in voting processes.
In contrast, Lindell’s attorney, Chris Kachouroff, retaliated by branding Coomer the “Chief Instigator” in his opening remarks, alleging that Coomer provoked Lindell during a press conference. Kachouroff claimed that Coomer was trying to entangle Lindell in guilt by association, citing a message in which Coomer supposedly encouraged an effort to extract funds from Lindell, referring to him as the “Pillow Man.”
Ultimately, Lindell’s team asserted that they would not present evidence to argue that the 2020 election was rigged, maintaining that the crux of the matter was Lindell’s belief in the truth of his statements. They framed the case as a critical test of the First Amendment, raising concerns about the implications for free speech should the jury rule against Lindell.

Coomer defended himself on the stand, declaring, “I’ve never interfered with any election. I don’t even have the access to even contemplate doing something that – nor the desire,” as reported by 9news.
