As reported earlier by , Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, has been rocked by a tragic shooting incident involving first responders who were attending to a brush fire.
CNN has confirmed that two individuals have lost their lives, and several others have sustained injuries after being ambushed by a gunman.
Currently, law enforcement is dealing with an active shooter situation, with at least one assailant still targeting officers.
Kootenai County Sheriff Robert Norris has stated, “We don’t know if there’s one, two, three, or four shooters,” leaving the situation shrouded in uncertainty.
Kootenai County Emergency Management has issued a directive for residents in the vicinity to shelter in place and has advised others to steer clear of the area.

Firefighters were ambushed by a gunman while responding to a brush fire in Coeur d’Alene, as detailed by Kootenai County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Howard.
At least two fatalities have been confirmed, with the active shooter opening fire on first responders. The total number of casualties remains unclear as the situation unfolds.
The incident began when a small brush fire erupted on Canfield Mountain Sunday afternoon.
As fire personnel arrived on the scene, they came under gunfire from an unidentified shooter hidden in the woods, Howard noted.
Law enforcement is currently investigating whether the fire was deliberately set as a trap for the responding officers.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino announced via X that “FBI assets are heading to the scene in Coeur d’Alene to provide tactical and operational support.”
UPDATE: The shooter has been neutralized, and the shelter in place order has been lifted.
