The dashcam footage from a truck parked at Louisvilleâs Muhammad Ali International Airport shows UPS Flight 2976 as it struggles to gain altitude during takeoff on a fateful afternoon.
A fiery blaze already engulfs the aircraft as it comes into view, and within seconds, it rolls over and crashes to the ground amidst a lot filled with cargo trucks.
As the plane disappears from view in a fiery inferno, the lot and several trucks are consumed by the intense flames.
The truck driver’s reaction is caught on camera as the fast-moving fireball illuminates his face, causing him to react in shock and disbelief.
Witnessing the explosion, he exclaims, âOhhh sât! Oh my fâking god!â before hastily exiting the cab.
The tragic accident resulted in at least nine fatalities, with authorities warning that the death toll could rise further.
The plane, carrying approximately 50,000 gallons of fuel, was attempting to depart for Hawaii when the left engine caught fire during takeoff. Moments later, the plane crashed back to the ground after briefly lifting off.
Tragically, the three crew members onboard the plane lost their lives in the crash. Additionally, 16 families have expressed concerns about missing individuals who were in the area at the time of the incident.
The plane collided with a petroleum recycling plant south of the runway, igniting a massive fire that raged for hours as firefighters worked tirelessly to contain it.
Reflecting on the tragedy, Louisville Fire Chief Brian OâNeill emphasized the human impact of such incidents and urged empathy towards the individuals affected by the crash.
âWe have watched this terrible video, we have watched these horrible incidents, just remember, please, those are real people that that impacted,â Chief OâNeill stated during a press conference following the devastating event.
âLetâs take a moment to think about them and their families and their loved ones,â he added.
