Uptown Incident: Elderly Woman Assaulted Over Refusal to Give Money
A disturbing incident occurred outside a McDonald’s in Uptown when an 82-year-old woman was violently pushed to the ground by a panhandler after she declined to give him money. Authorities have confirmed that the fall resulted in a broken knee for the victim.
On September 15, at approximately 10 a.m., Dion Rance, 49, was seen panhandling near the drive-through of the fast-food restaurant located at 1004 West Wilson Avenue. The elderly woman, a regular patron who often visits for breakfast, was exiting the restaurant when Rance approached her.
According to prosecutors, surveillance footage reportedly captures Rance trailing the woman before forcefully shoving her in the back. The force of the push caused her to fall face-first onto the pavement, causing her to scream in agony as Rance allegedly walked away from the scene without offering aid.
CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by a group of concerned residents from Wrigleyville and Boystown who were frustrated with unreliable information being shared during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings.
Our focus has since broadened to cover neighborhoods such as Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, and Uptown, while our mission remains firm: to deliver original public safety news with in-depth context and more detailed reporting than mainstream media sources.
