In recent news, the US and Ukraine have signed an “economic partnership” deal that will give Washington access to the country’s critical minerals and natural resources. After weeks of tense negotiations, the agreement was finally signed at the US Treasury department.

As part of the deal, a “reconstruction investment fund” will be established for Ukraine, a provision that President Donald Trump had insisted on as a way to repay America for its past aid to Kyiv. This agreement comes at a crucial time as Trump works to broker a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia, a promise he made early in his second term as president.

The minerals deal has been a point of contention between Washington and Kyiv, with tensions running high. Talks were on the verge of falling apart before a publicized dispute between Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office in February. Fortunately, negotiations were able to resume and the deal was successfully finalized.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story. And don’t forget to sign up for the White House Watch newsletter to stay informed on all the latest developments in Washington and beyond.
