U.S. Forest Service Calls Back Resigned Employees for Wildfire Season
Following the Trump Administration’s offer for federal employees to voluntarily resign, the U.S. Forest Service is now urging those who resigned to return to work for the upcoming wildfire season.
In a video message posted on the Department of Agriculture website, Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz emphasized the importance of having employees who took the deferred resignation offer to “come back” to assist during the wildfire season.
This call for resigned employees to return comes amidst concerns raised by officials in various states, including Colorado, about the potential impact of mass layoffs and voluntary resignations on the Forest Service’s ability to effectively respond to wildfires.
Since President Trump’s inauguration, his administration has been focused on reducing the size of the federal workforce, with initiatives like the deferred resignation program giving employees the option to resign while still receiving pay and benefits until September.
