A tragic incident unfolded in New York when a man, Drew Garnier, took the lives of his pregnant wife and severely injured his two young daughters. The motive behind this heinous act was Garnier’s desire for a son, as revealed by the victim’s father.
The heartbreaking event occurred in 2024, when Garnier, 33, fatally stabbed his 29-year-old wife Samantha, who was five months pregnant with their third daughter. The brutal attack also targeted their daughters, Izzie, 6, and Adelina, 9, at their Masonville home.
Following the incident, Samantha and her unborn child tragically lost their lives, while the children sustained serious injuries. Garnier’s father-in-law shared that the perpetrator’s actions stemmed from his disappointment in expecting another daughter.
Gregory Vernagallo, Samantha’s father, stated in court that Garnier’s desire for a son led to the senseless killing of his wife. As the girls continue to recover, Vernagallo expressed his commitment to now being their father figure.
Garnier was apprehended by the New York State Police on September 5, 2024, after a domestic incident at his Centerville residence. He later pleaded guilty to charges of homicide and assault, receiving a 30-year prison sentence and 15 years of supervised release.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Garnier is prohibited from seeing his daughters until 2056, with the possibility for the girls to override this restriction in the future. The District Attorney’s Office acknowledged the trauma suffered by the children as a contributing factor in the sentencing agreement.
