The recent events in the Middle East have sent shockwaves around the world, as the United States claimed to have launched a devastating attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. The operation, carried out by seven B-2 bombers, targeted key sites in Iran in a bold move by President Donald Trump.

General Dan Caine, the chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, revealed that the bombers flew for 18 hours from Missouri before dropping 14 “bunker buster” bombs on Iranian targets. The operation, codenamed Operation Midnight Hammer, was a carefully orchestrated strike that aimed to cripple Iran’s nuclear program without sparking a larger conflict.

The use of the 30,000lb GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator marked a significant escalation in the conflict, as it was the first time this powerful bomb was used in combat. The primary target of the operation was Iran’s Fordow nuclear site, which was believed to be heavily fortified.

In addition to the airstrikes, an Ohio-class guided-missile nuclear submarine was used to launch Tomahawk missiles at another site in Isfahan. The coordinated attack was a show of force by the US, aimed at sending a strong message to Iran.

While US officials hailed the operation as a success, with Vice President JD Vance claiming that the Iranian nuclear program had been “destroyed”, Iran warned of retaliation. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the attack as crossing a “red line” and hinted at possible reprisals against American interests.

The international community responded with mixed reactions to the US-led attack. China and Russia condemned the operation, while European countries called for de-escalation. UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that the attack posed a direct threat to international peace and security.

President Trump’s decision to join Israel in its conflict with Iran has raised concerns among his supporters, many of whom advocate for a non-interventionist foreign policy. While most Republican lawmakers supported the president’s actions, some, like Representative Thomas Massie, questioned the rationale behind the attack.

As tensions continue to simmer in the Middle East, the world watches anxiously to see how the situation will unfold. The White House Watch newsletter provides valuable insights into the implications of Trump’s second term on Washington, business, and the global stage.
