Lincoln Riley, the fourth-highest-paid coach in college football, according to USA Today’s database, is under scrutiny as USC struggles to deliver top-10 results under his leadership. In his third year at the helm, Riley’s Trojans have failed to live up to expectations, most recently suffering a devastating 29-28 loss to Maryland.

Despite leading in the fourth quarter of all their losses, USC has been unable to close out games, with critical mistakes costing them dearly. Riley’s inability to find solutions to his team’s on-field struggles has raised concerns among fans and analysts alike.

The Trojans’ lack of ability to separate from opponents, particularly in crucial moments, has been a recurring theme throughout the season. Riley’s roster, built over three years, has not shown the necessary talent or attention to detail to secure key victories.

With a tough schedule ahead and a top-10 recruiting class for 2025, USC faces challenges in upgrading its roster and addressing its fundamental issues. Riley’s coaching decisions and the team’s inability to finish games have put his future at USC in question.

While calls for Riley’s firing may grow louder, his hefty contract makes that scenario unlikely. As USC looks to salvage its season and rebuild for the future, Riley must make significant changes to his coaching approach and instill a winning culture within the team.

Heading into the final stretch of the season, USC’s performance will be closely scrutinized as Riley seeks to prove his ability to lead the Trojans back to prominence. With pride on the line and nothing else to play for, Riley faces a crucial test of his coaching acumen and the resilience of his team.

As the pressure mounts and USC’s season hangs in the balance, Riley must confront the reality of his team’s shortcomings and make the necessary adjustments to turn their fortunes around. Only time will tell if he can rise to the challenge and restore USC to its former glory.
