Second Lady Usha Vance is working to alter public perception of her husband, but many remain unconvinced, RadarOnline.com reports. Her enthusiastic portrayal of Vice President J.D. Vance has triggered a wave of online backlash, as social media users ridicule what they perceive as an unconvincing attempt at rebranding.
In a Fox News interview with Kayleigh McEnany, Usha was asked to share something people might not know about her husband. She described him as “just the nicest, funniest guy,” adding, “He’s really just a wonderful person to be around, and our children, our family has so much more joy because he is a part of it. I wish that people saw more of that.”
The social media response was swift and harsh. One user quipped, “She must be easily amused bc he’s got the personality of a mushroom,” while another commented, “She must be a terrible person as well. It’s the only explanation.” Some outright dismissed the characterization, with a critic stating, “No ma’am. He has terrorized this country with his heartless lies and actions. The last thing he is is nice or funny.” Another user suggested, “This sounds like something she would tell her girlfriends when they ask why he did that f—– up thing in public again.”
Skepticism rapidly turned into derision. A user remarked, “What’s funny is that she thinks this is convincing,” while another added, “She is so gross. And a liar just like her scumbag husband.” A further comment read, “‘Funniest.’ Usha girl, you could have at least tried to make it believable.” Others argued that the need to clarify his personality traits undermined the claim itself. One person noted, “The fact that no one knows he’s a ‘nice, funny’ guy just shows you how horrible he’s actually been in public.” Another user declared, “If he was nice and funny, we’d know.” Another critique stated, “Maybe more people would see it if he would actually show it. Seems like he’d rather continue to show himself being an a——.” Another bluntly assessed, “Vance is anything but funny or nice and he’s dumber than dirt! America knows all it needs to know about her husband, total Trump sycophant with no independent thinking!”
Usha’s remarks are part of a broader media initiative linked to her new podcast, Storytime with the Second Lady, which she describes as an “advertisement for reading” focused on family life and everyday experiences. The timing of this image-enhancing campaign has not gone unnoticed, especially as J.D. is poised to embark on his own media tour. He plans to promote his forthcoming memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, set for release in June. Some observers view this as a potential early step towards a 2028 presidential bid.
