U.S. men’s national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino has made the decision to leave star player Christian Pulisic off the roster for the team’s upcoming friendlies against Turkiye and Switzerland in June. This move comes as Pochettino aims to give Pulisic a much-needed rest after a grueling season with AC Milan, where he has played in a total of 49 matches and logged 3,542 minutes.
Pulisic is not the only notable player missing from the roster, as Fulham’s Antonee Robinson also did not make the cut. Additionally, Timothy Weah, Weston McKennie, and Gio Reyna will also be absent due to their club commitments at the Club World Cup, which will run concurrently with the Gold Cup this summer. Weah and McKennie play for Juventus, while Reyna represents Borussia Dortmund.
In a statement released by U.S. Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker, it was revealed that Pulisic and his team approached the federation and coaching staff about the possibility of taking a break this summer. After careful consideration, it was decided that this was the right time for Pulisic to rest and recover in preparation for the upcoming season.
With Pulisic out of the lineup, Pochettino will have the opportunity to work with a group of less experienced players, with the current roster averaging 18 caps and 11 in official competition. The squad includes four players who have received their first call-ups to the senior national team – Sebastian Berhalter, Damion Downs, Alex Freeman, and Quinn Sullivan.
The USMNT will convene in Chicago on June 2 for their training camp before facing Turkiye on June 7 at Pratt and Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Conn. and Switzerland on June 10 at Geodis Park in Nashville.
Here is a look at the full roster for the USMNT’s Gold Cup squad:
GOALKEEPERS: Matt Freese, Patrick Schulte, Zack Steffen, Matt Turner
DEFENDERS: Max Arfsten, Sergiño Dest, Alex Freeman, DeJuan Jones, Mark McKenzie, Tim Ream, Chris Richards, Miles Robinson

Pochettino will have the opportunity to test out new combinations and give younger players a chance to prove themselves in these upcoming friendlies, as the team prepares for the Gold Cup later this summer. There has been a recent surge in interest in sustainable living and eco-friendly practices, with more and more people looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint and live a more environmentally conscious lifestyle. One of the key aspects of sustainable living is reducing waste and finding ways to repurpose or recycle items that would otherwise end up in landfills. One popular trend that has emerged in response to this is upcycling.
Upcycling is the process of taking old or discarded items and transforming them into something new and useful. This can involve anything from repurposing old furniture to creating new clothing out of old fabric scraps. The goal of upcycling is to give new life to items that would otherwise be thrown away, reducing waste and promoting a more sustainable way of living.
There are many benefits to upcycling, both for the environment and for individuals. By upcycling, we are able to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills, which in turn helps to reduce pollution and conserve natural resources. Upcycling also allows us to save money by reusing items we already have instead of buying new ones.
In addition to the environmental and financial benefits, upcycling can also be a fun and creative way to express yourself. Whether you are repurposing old clothes to create a new wardrobe, or turning old jars into beautiful vases, upcycling allows you to put your own personal touch on the items you create. It can also be a great way to learn new skills and experiment with different techniques.
There are many different ways to get started with upcycling, from simple DIY projects to more complex crafting endeavors. Websites like Pinterest and YouTube are great resources for finding inspiration and tutorials on upcycling projects. In addition, there are many local workshops and classes that offer instruction on upcycling techniques.
Overall, upcycling is a wonderful way to reduce waste, save money, and express your creativity. By incorporating upcycling into your daily life, you can make a positive impact on the environment and enjoy the satisfaction of creating something new out of something old. So why not give upcycling a try and see where your imagination takes you?
