The Whoniverse welcomes a new companion in the upcoming second season of Disney+ and the BBC’s “Doctor Who.” Varada Sethu makes her debut as Belinda Chandra, who boldly demands to be taken home by Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor in the first teaser. The teaser hints at an impending apocalyptic invasion, with spaceships and robots causing chaos as Gatwa’s Doctor exclaims in disbelief. Additionally, Gibson’s Ruby Sunday, Gatwa’s Season 1 companion, also makes a return, putting to rest any rumors of her departure.
The official synopsis for the new season, scheduled to premiere next year, reveals that the Doctor and Belinda Chandra will embark on an epic quest to return her to Earth. However, they encounter a mysterious force that hinders their journey, forcing the time-traveling TARDIS team to confront greater dangers and formidable enemies than ever before.
The teaser for the second season was unveiled after the airing of this year’s “Doctor Who” Christmas special, titled “Joy to the World.” The episode features “Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan as a new character named Joy, who stumbles upon a secret doorway to the Time Hotel in London, leading to a perilous adventure with the Doctor involving dinosaurs. As a deadly plot unfolds across Earth, the Doctor must race against time to save Christmas and humanity from an old enemy lurking in the shadows.
Renowned writer Russell T Davies leads the show as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Joel Collins, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter as additional executive producers. “Doctor Who” is produced by Bad Wolf in collaboration with BBC Studios for Disney Branded Television, BBC One, and BBC iPlayer.
