Variety Magazine Dominates National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards

Variety Magazine took home an impressive 14 first-place wins at the 17th annual National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards. The awards ceremony, which was held at the prestigious Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, saw Variety journalists and editors receiving accolades in various categories including print journalism, film criticism, investigative reporting, and news photography.

Leading the pack was Chris Willman, chief music critic and senior features editor, who secured four wins, including the coveted title of print journalist of the year. Willman was recognized for his exceptional film criticism, as well as for his action photo capturing Brandi Carlisle in concert. His insightful commentary on music-related topics also earned him recognition for his piece on Jason Aldean.

Executive editor of film and media, Tatiana Siegel, also had a successful night, winning in two top investigative categories. Her in-depth reporting on the inner workings of the entertainment industry and celebrity scandals solidified her position as a top journalist in her field.

The co-Editors in Chief of Variety, Cynthia Littleton and Ramin Setoodeh, expressed their pride in the team’s accomplishments, stating, “We are so proud of the work produced across Variety every day. These big wins reinforce that we have the largest and strongest team of entertainment business journalists in the world.”

A breakdown of Variety’s wins at the awards ceremony includes:

– Chris Willman’s wins for print journalism, film criticism, and music-related commentary.
– Tatiana Siegel’s victories in entertainment industry investigative reporting and celebrity investigative reporting.
– Chief film critic Owen Gleiberman’s recognition for his obituary/appreciation piece on film personalities.
– Film and media reporter Katcy Stephan’s award for her feature on the film industry.
– Executive editor of music, Jem Aswad’s win for soft news related to music and arts.
– Executive editor Brent Lang’s feature on diversity in film and TV.
– Contributor Pamela Chelin’s celebrity feature online.
– Digital design director Dan Doperalski’s celebrity portrait.
– Longtime contributor Michael Buckner’s news photo.
– Senior awards editor Clayton Davis’ commentary on TV industry trends.
