The Satanic Temple Launches Program in Ohio Elementary School
In a shocking turn of events, the Satanic Temple has been given permission to implement a program at an elementary school in Ohio. The program, known as the “Hellions Academy of Independent Learning” or “HAIL,” is being offered to students at Edgewood Elementary School in Marysville.
The decision to target this particular school stems from its partnership with LifeWise Academy, a Christian Release Time Religious Instruction program that provides students with Bible teachings for one hour each week. The Satanic Temple argues that if Christian programs are allowed in public schools, then programs from any religion, including Satanism, should also be permitted.
According to a press release from the Satanic Temple, the organization is leveraging a Supreme Court ruling from 1952 to support their argument. The ruling in Zorach v. Clauson stated that Religious Release Time Instruction programs do not violate the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause. This means that schools are not required to approve such programs, but if they do, they must allow all religious groups equal access.
While Christian RTRI programs have been rapidly expanding across the country, the Satanic Temple believes that these programs are being used to exclude non-Christian students and promote Christianity. They claim that by offering exclusive activities and field trips to Christian students, these programs are using peer pressure to encourage religious conversion.
TST Director of Campaign Operations, Erin Helian, expressed concern over the use of peer pressure to gain adherents to a religion, stating, “It is not a good look to prey upon children by bribing them with field trips and snacks.” The Satanic Temple aims to counter this narrative by offering educational arts and crafts, games, and community service projects that teach Satanic values such as empathy, compassion, and justice.
It is clear that the presence of the Satanic Temple in a public school setting is a controversial and divisive issue. While some may argue for religious freedom and equality, others may see it as a dangerous precedent. The question remains, where do we draw the line between religious expression and protecting our children from potentially harmful influences?
As concerned citizens and parents, it is crucial to stay informed and engaged in discussions surrounding these important issues. The infiltration of Satanic programs in elementary schools should serve as a wake-up call for all Americans. It is up to us to stand firm in our beliefs and values, and to ensure that our children are protected from harmful influences.
Let this be a reminder that in the battle of good versus evil, we must always be vigilant and ready to defend what is right.
