In a striking twist of irony, the left, notable for its fervent defense of free speech—especially in the realm of humor—now finds itself remarkably quiet following the suspension of the widely criticized comedian Jimmy Kimmel.

Simultaneously, the Biden administration seems to have declared an outright campaign against free expression. Recent reports indicate a troubling trend of pressuring platforms to suppress discourse concerning Covid-19 and election-related topics, particularly if the views expressed conflict with the administration’s narrative.

As noted by The Gateway Pundit, Representative Jim Jordan took to X to confirm that Google has reversed its stringent censorship policies from prior years, now pledging to reinstate accounts that had been banned from its YouTube platform.

Rep. Jordan stated, “Thanks to our oversight efforts, GOOGLE has committed to allowing ALL creators who were previously removed from YouTube due to alleged political speech violations to return to the platform.”

In subsequent posts on X, he elaborated on some specifics. Notably, YouTube acknowledged that the censorship pressures exerted by the Biden administration were “unacceptable and wrong,” and it confirmed that the administration sought to suppress content that aligned with YouTube’s own guidelines.

YouTube stated:

“Senior Biden Administration officials, including White House personnel, engaged in repeated outreach to Alphabet, pressuring the company about certain user-generated content related to the COVID-19 pandemic that did not violate its own policies. While the Company continued to implement and enforce its policies independently, Biden Administration officials persisted in urging the removal of non-violative user-generated content.”

“As online platforms wrestled with these decisions, the climate fostered by administration officials, including President Biden, notably sought to influence platform actions based on their apprehensions about misinformation.”

So, where are the champions of the First Amendment—the Jimmy Kimmel loyalists? Why the sudden silence in the face of verifiable governmental overreach?

It raises an intriguing question: Did their commitment to the First Amendment only extend as far as their preferred entertainer? The irony seems almost palpable.
