The recent deportation and imprisonment of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an undocumented immigrant, has sparked considerable debate in the media. Today, Senator Chris Van Hollen, a Democrat from Maryland, took a notable trip to El Salvador to advocate for the release of this individual, who is allegedly linked to the notorious MS-13 gang.

reported,

Democrat Senator Chris Van Hollen has made the journey to El Salvador, seemingly for a public relations opportunity in his quest to bring back Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a deported MS-13 gang member, to the United States.

“I just landed in San Salvador a short while ago and I’m eager to meet with the U.S. embassy team to discuss the release of Mr. Abrego Garcia,” Van Hollen stated. “I also hope to engage with Salvadoran officials and meet Kilmar himself. He was wrongfully taken and deserves to return home,” he asserted.

It’s worth noting that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is currently residing in his home country of El Salvador, while Van Hollen’s efforts suggest a push to bring him back to the U.S.

Garcia, who hails from El Salvador, had been living illegally in Maryland. In 2019, an immigration judge mandated his removal from the U.S. due to his alleged affiliation with the MS-13 gang, a group known for its violent activities.

At present, he is being held at the infamous CECOT prison in El Salvador.

Chris Van Hollen’s visit to El Salvador was met with a cold reception from the Vice President of the country.

This raises a pertinent question: where was this fervor when innocent American citizens fell victim to brutal acts committed by illegal immigrants? It seems that congressional Democrats would rather avoid discussing these tragedies altogether. Yet, when it comes to advocating for an alleged member of a foreign gang, the energy to mobilize resources and attention appears boundless.
