Victoria Beckham Opens Up About Eating Disorder in New Netflix Documentary
In a recent Netflix documentary, Victoria Beckham shared a side of herself that she had never spoken openly about before. The fashion designer and former Spice Girl admitted to struggling with an “incredibly unhealthy” eating disorder in the past.
Victoria revealed, “When you have an eating disorder, you become very good at lying, and I was never honest about it with my parents. I never talked about it in public. It really affects you when you’re being told constantly that you’re not good enough, and I suppose that’s been with me my whole life.”
The documentary also delved into a particularly difficult time for Victoria, when she was weighed on TV just six months after giving birth to her and David Beckham’s first child in 1999. Despite joking about it now, Victoria confessed that the experience was incredibly hurtful.
She shared, “We laugh about it, and we joke about it, when we were on television, but I was really, really young, and that hurts. I mean, you know it’s been a lot, and that is hard. I had no control over what’s been written about me, pictures that were being taken, and I suppose I wanted to control that, you know, control it with the clothing. I could control my weight, and I was controlling it in an incredibly unhealthy way.”
Throughout her career, Victoria has faced criticism and scrutiny over her weight, being labeled as “Porky Posh” and “Skinny Posh.” Her honesty in the documentary sheds light on the pressures she faced and the impact they had on her mental and physical well-being.
