BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
Today, we take a momentous pause to honor the 80th anniversary of the Allied Forces’ decisive victory over national socialism and fascism, marking the end of World War II in Europe. This day stands as a testament to one of the most significant triumphs for the cause of freedom in human history. On this World War II Victory Day, we reflect on the unparalleled strength and valor of the American Armed Forces while reaffirming our commitment to safeguarding our cherished right to liberty against all threats, both foreign and domestic.
Following the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the United States entered a conflict that symbolized the ultimate clash between good and evil. The ensuing four years were marked by some of the darkest moments in human history, resulting in the loss of over 250,000 American lives in the struggle against the Nazi regime. Today, as every day, we pay homage to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation, our freedom, and the very essence of Western civilization. Without their bravery and sacrifice, the outcome of this war and the world we inhabit today would be unrecognizably different.
May 8, 1945, signifies the moment the Allies received Germany’s unconditional surrender, heralding the dawn of the end of years characterized by brutal and protracted warfare. The countless lives lost serve as a poignant reminder of our duty to seek peace through strength. I remain resolutely committed to putting an end to the cycle of interminable foreign conflicts and safeguarding lives. As I expressed during my Inaugural Address, our success should not solely be measured by the battles we win but also by the wars we conclude, and my proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker.
As we celebrate this Victory Day for World War II, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to every patriot from the Greatest Generation who courageously left their homes and families to fight for our freedoms in distant lands. We honor the memories of all who perished in this noble cause. Above all, we reaffirm our dedication to ensuring that America and the entire world remain safe, secure, prosperous, and free.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, hereby proclaim May 8, 2025, as a day of celebration for Victory Day in World War II.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this seventh day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred forty-ninth.
DONALD J. TRUMP
