BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
We commemorate Victory Day for World War II, honoring America’s significant victory over oppression and evil in Europe, achieved through the strength of the Armed Forces and our Allies. On May 8, 1945, Nazi Germany’s hold was broken, and the news of triumph spread across our nation and the world, marking a pivotal moment in the history of freedom.
From the iconic storming of Normandy’s beaches to the relentless defense during the Battle of the Bulge, the bravery of numerous American soldiers propelled the Allied mission across North Africa’s deserts and Western Europe’s forests until the Nazi regime’s downfall. Their dedication, along with the determined efforts of millions at home, crushed tyranny and set the stage for the Allies’ definitive victory over Imperial Japan nearly four months later.
The quest for liberty demanded an enormous sacrifice. Over 250,000 Americans sacrificed their lives fighting the Nazi regime. Their valiant efforts remind us that our cherished freedoms are born from sacrifice and must be vigorously protected both domestically and internationally. We honor them and the millions of innocent victims who suffered atrocious acts and lost their lives under national socialism.
As we celebrate 250 years of American independence, we carry their legacy by ensuring our Armed Forces remain the world’s strongest, prepared to protect our sovereignty, confront any threat, and uphold the liberty they courageously defended.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 8, 2026, as a day to commemorate Victory Day for World War II.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set my hand this seventh day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-six, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
DONALD J. TRUMP
