President Trump’s Take on the Ongoing Russia-Ukraine Conflict

During a recent press interaction in New Jersey, just before boarding Air Force One to Washington, D.C., President Trump expressed his discontent with the ongoing warfare between Russia and Ukraine, indicating a desire for peace in the region.

According to reports from , Russian forces have been making notable progress in Ukraine and have targeted the capital, Kiev, all while NATO allies continue to pour in unprecedented military support for Ukraine.

When asked about the current state of the conflict, Trump did not hold back his criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin. “I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin. I’ve known him a long time, always gotten along with him, but he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it at all,” he stated emphatically.

Trump further pointed out that this escalation occurs while negotiations aimed at ending the war are ongoing, leaving him “very surprised” by Putin’s aggressive maneuvers.

In a twist of intrigue, Trump was also queried about a reported drone assassination attempt on Putin. Russian Air Force Major-General Yuri Dashkin noted that Putin’s helicopter was nearly caught in a large-scale drone attack, with 46 drones reportedly neutralized during the Sunday incident.

While acknowledging he had not been briefed on the incident, Trump hinted, “but maybe that would be a reason.” It remains ambiguous whether he was suggesting the drone attack was provoked by Russian assaults or vice versa. This is not the first time such dramatic claims have surfaced; a similar report in 2023 alleged Ukraine’s attempts to strike the Kremlin with a drone aimed at assassinating Putin.

Furthermore, Trump revealed he is “absolutely” contemplating imposing additional sanctions on Russia, indicating a potential shift in U.S. policy toward a more aggressive stance against the Kremlin.

In a notably humorous exchange during the press gaggle, Trump playfully chastised one reporter who dared to inquire about his strategies regarding Russia’s aggression. “What, am I going to tell you? You’re the fake news, aren’t you? You’re totally fake,” he quipped, blending sarcasm with his characteristic bravado.

Reporter: Could you provide us an update on Russia and Ukraine?

Trump: Yeah, I’ll give you an update. I’m not happy with what Putin is doing. He’s killing a lot of people, and I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin. I’ve known him a long time, always gotten along with him, but he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it at all, okay? We’re in the middle of talking, and he’s shooting rockets into Kiev and other cities. I don’t like it at all. I’m surprised. I’m very surprised.

Reporter: Mr. President, what are you going to do about that?

Trump: We’ll see what we’re going to do. What, am I going to tell you? You’re the fake news, aren’t you? You’re totally fake… I don’t like what Putin is doing, not even a little bit. He’s killing people. And something happened to this guy, and I don’t like it.

Reporter: A Russian commander reportedly said that Putin was almost caught in the middle of a drone attack from Ukraine. So, do you have any response?

Trump: I haven’t heard that, but maybe that would be a reason. I don’t know, but I have not heard that.
