According to an internal police report, three suspects allegedly attacked two elderly Jewish men in an unprovoked assault outside a San Jose restaurant, using antisemitic slurs. The report labels the incident as a “hate crime.”
Ramon Akoyans, 18, Roma Akoyans, 20, and Bruneil Chamaki, 32, surrendered to the San Jose Police Department on Monday. They now face felony assault charges, with Chamaki additionally charged with misdemeanor battery.
The Santa Clara District Attorney, Jeff Rosen, has chosen not to file hate crime charges against the trio, despite victims reporting that the attackers shouted antisemitic slurs before the broad-daylight attack. This information comes from a police report compiled by officers at the scene.
A witness noted that the attackers might have been saying “Don’t f— with Iran” as they fled, according to a document from SJPD officers obtained by The Post.
SJPD officers identified the event as a hate crime in their report, describing the assault on two older Hebrew speakers captured on video outside Augustine, a posh eatery.
“On 3/8/2026 at approximately 1538 hours, a hate crime occurred at 377 Santana Row in San Jose, Ca.,” states the report. “The victims were Jewish and were speaking to each other in Hebrew. Three suspects walked past them and heard the victims speaking Hebrew. One suspect said, “F— Jews” and all three suspects began physically assaulting the two victims simultaneously.”
Officers completed a form designating the incident as a “hate crime.”
While police can recommend charges, the decision ultimately rests with the District Attorney in Santa Clara County, where the crime took place.
It remains unclear why Rosen, who practices Judaism, has not pursued hate crime charges. Such charges in California require proof that the suspect was motivated by hate and carry a potential additional year in jail if proven.
Rosen’s spokesman Sean Webby stated that the DA’s office is still reviewing all evidence. “The investigation is ongoing,” Webby said. “Law enforcement is still trying to figure out exactly what happened.”
Witnesses reported the victims were speaking Hebrew and described the attack as the trio of young men passed by.
A disturbing video recorded by a bystander shows the suspects attacking the older men with fists and elbows, continuing even after the victims were on the ground.

One suspect is seen holding a victim’s legs while another uses his elbow to strike the older man.
Chamaki, the oldest suspect, was admitted to the California State Bar in 2023 and worked as a corporate attorney. His law firm has since removed online postings about him.
An anonymous tip to police described the three suspects as having a reputation for antisemitism. The caller, who reportedly grew up with two of the suspects, claimed the attack “was not random” and mentioned that the suspects praised the Iranian Ayatollah.
The caller said, “The suspects are very antisemitic and they post on Instagram.”
Photos and videos posted online previously showed the suspects with high-powered guns, including handguns and semi-automatic AR-15-style rifles.
The suspects are believed to be connected through the Bay Area’s Assyrian community, with several social media posts showing Chamaki and the Akoyans at gun ranges, MMA fights, and other events together.
The suspects could not be reached for immediate comment.
