Amazon MGM Studios has announced that they are in the process of developing a scripted series based on Vivian Tu’s non-fiction book “Rich AF: The Money Mindset That Will Change Your Life.” The project will be spearheaded by Mallory Rosenthal, known for her work on “Panic,” who will serve as both the writer and executive producer. Tu herself, along with Sarah Kucserka, co-showrunner of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” will also be executive producers on the series. Patrick Moran and Lynley Bird from PKM Productions are on board as executive producers as well, bringing the project to Amazon through their first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
The series is set to explore a “riches to rags” narrative, following the journey of 23-year-old Lia, a billionaire’s daughter and Wall Street prodigy who is forced to start over after uncovering her father’s white-collar crimes and losing everything she once had. The show will delve into Lia’s struggle as she navigates between her former life of luxury and her new reality, slowly building a freelance career and realizing that true wealth is not just about money.
Tu expressed her excitement about the project, calling “Rich AF” a love letter to anyone who has ever felt financially strained and in need of a fresh start. As the chief financial empowerment officer at SoFi and a bestselling author, Tu brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. Her recent book, “Well Endowed: The Secrets to Strategic Spending, Building a Financial Foundation for You and Your Family, and Creating Lasting Generational Wealth,” was released earlier this month.
Moran, a seasoned executive producer with a background at ABC Studios, is also involved in the project. He is currently working on the USA Network series adaptation of John Grisham’s “The Rainmaker,” which was renewed for a second season in October 2025. Moran signed a deal with Amazon in 2019, solidifying his commitment to bringing compelling storytelling to audiences.
The creative team behind the series is represented by top talent agencies, with Tu repped by WME, Hansen Jacobson, and 42West, Kucserka by WME and 3Arts Entertainment, Rosenthal by WME and Amplified Management, and Moran by Myman Greenspan.
Overall, the upcoming series based on “Rich AF” promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of wealth, privilege, and personal reinvention. With a talented team at the helm and a compelling narrative at its core, this show is sure to captivate audiences and spark important conversations about money, success, and the true meaning of wealth.
