Russia Continues to Bomb Ukraine Despite Trump’s Warning

Despite warnings from President Trump, Russia continued its bombing campaign in Ukraine overnight on Tuesday. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov made it clear that Russia finds any attempts to make demands or ultimatums unacceptable, according to Russia’s state-run TASS news agency.

The ongoing tensions between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have raised concerns among neighboring countries. In a recent op-ed published in London’s Telegraph, Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, a former Colonel and expert on weapons of mass destruction, highlighted the increased threat of nuclear retaliation.

De Bretton-Gordon emphasized the importance of nuclear deterrence relying on parity and equilibrium to be effective. He expressed concerns that recent comments made by the US president regarding Europe may have weakened this balance, potentially leading the Kremlin to believe that the US would not react if Russia were to use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine or Europe.

He further pointed out that the continuous threats of nuclear attack by Putin and his administration since the conflict in Ukraine began indicate a detailed consideration of such actions. With the conflict extending for over three years, there is a possibility that Russia may attempt to swiftly end the situation by using tactical nuclear weapons, banking on a perceived lack of response from Western powers.
