Eugene Levy had an honest conversation with Prince William regarding his future responsibilities as the next King of England on The Reluctant Traveler â but the discussion also touched on the relationship between William and his brother Prince Harry.
During the interview, Levy, now 78, explained that he wasnât restricted from asking William about any subject while filming the Apple TV+ series, noting in a chat with ITV News that he faced no limitations.
âDid anyone ever tell you to avoid questions, such as those regarding Harry and Meghan [Markle]? Was that a subject you wanted to sidestep?â the reporter queried Levy in the segment aired on Thursday, October 2.
Responding to this, Levy stated, âI wasn’t prohibited from asking, but I felt it wasn’t really my role to delve into that.â
The seasoned actor, who has led the travel show for three seasons, shared, âI didnât really care to inquire about that, given how sensitive the matter is and it wasnât mine to broach.â
Levy pointed out, âI believed there were other interesting avenues to explore in conversation that would engage him and be captivating for audiences, but that specific topic was not something I wanted to dive into.â
William and Harry, who is 41, have had a strained relationship for several years, which intensified in 2020 when Harry and Meghan, aged 44, decided to step down from their royal roles. After moving from the U.K. to the U.S., the divide between the two became more evident.
In January 2023, Harry opened up about his relationship with William in his enlightening memoir, Spare, which included an account of an alleged physical confrontation between the brothers concerning Meghan.
In his book, Harry alleged that William described Meghan as âdifficultâ and ârudeâ during a 2019 visit to his home, an encounter that led to heated feelings between them. Despite their ongoing disputes, Harry expressed to ITV that he âwould like to have my brother backâ amidst the ongoing family strife.
Despite Harry’s attempts to mend his relationship with his father, King Charles III, during visits to England over the last few years â issues still persist with William.
âHarryâs bond with his brother is distinctly different than his relationship with their father,â royal commentator Kristen Meinzer exclusively told Us Weekly in August. âPerhaps, if Charles becomes more receptive toward Harry, it might encourage William to soften his stance.â
Although Harry has reconnected with his father, King Charles III, in recent years during trips to England â even with their own conflicts â his bond with William remains rocky.
âHarryâs relationship with his brother is a more complex issue than his relationship with his father,â royal analyst Kristen Meinzer said in exclusive remarks to Us Weekly in August. âIf Charles shows greater acceptance towards Harry, William might feel the pressure to do the same.â
While Harry has made strides to reconcile with his father, King Charles III, the situation between him and William has yet to improve significantly.
âI hope we can avoid reverting to the negative patterns that Harry and I experienced growing up,â William remarked during his discussion with Levy regarding his vision for his rule following his fatherâs reign. âI will do everything in my power to prevent that from happening. Itâs fair to say that transformation is a priority for me. Positive change is essential.â
In another part of the episode, William admitted, âFamily-related issues tend to overwhelm me. Concerns or pressures regarding familial matters can be quite taxing for me. However, when it comes to fulfilling my responsibilities, I donât find it too overwhelming â not at the moment, anyway.â
The Reluctant Traveler is now available for streaming on Apple TV+.
