Border Czar Tom Homan recently addressed GOP lawmakers and officials from Sanctuary Cities in an interview with at the White House.
In light of the GOP Senators preparing to oppose the recently passed Big Beautiful Bill—which allocates funds for Border Patrol, enforcement, and barriers to curb illegal crossings—Homan urged the Senate to heed the wishes of the electorate.
“Let’s be clear: President Trump was elected by the American people, primarily due to a mandate focused on border security and the removal of public safety and national security threats posed by criminal illegal aliens,” Homan asserted. “I would hope that every GOP member recognizes there is no downside to fortifying our borders.”
As reported by , some Republican Senators, including Rick Scott (R-FL), have raised concerns about the bill, pledging not to support it due to deficit worries. Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) echoed this sentiment, stating earlier in the week that the One Big Beautiful Bill lacks sufficient votes to pass in the Senate.
Homan issued a stern warning to Democratic leaders in Sanctuary Cities against obstructing ICE operations, which he characterized as felonious behavior. He indicated his intention to seek prosecution for those who harbor illegal aliens.
This week, Homan responded to Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s attempts to hinder ICE enforcement actions aimed at protecting public safety against threats such as sex offenders, violent criminals, gang members, and repeat border-crossers. Alongside ongoing House Committee investigations, he hinted that O’Connell may soon find himself under federal scrutiny and announced plans to visit Nashville.

To date, a former judge from New Mexico and a Milwaukee County judge have been arrested for concealing illegal aliens from law enforcement. Additionally, Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) has faced charges for assaulting ICE agents at the Delaney Hall Detention Center in Newark, New Jersey.
However, no sitting official implementing Sanctuary City policies has been arrested for protecting illegal aliens, including those affiliated with foreign terrorist cartels, from ICE—a felony under 8 U.S. Code § 1324, which carries significant penalties for anyone who conceals, harbors, or shields illegal aliens from detection. The stakes are even higher if those aliens cause injury or death, a frequent occurrence with violent offenders.
“That decision lies with the DOJ,” Homan remarked, adding that he has conferred with Attorney General Bondi on the issue, but will keep the specifics of their discussions confidential.
One can only hope that Bondi and the DOJ will take meaningful action beyond mere civil lawsuits to deter these officials from providing sanctuary to illegal aliens.

Conradson: Several GOP Senators have announced plans to oppose the Big Beautiful Bill, claiming they have enough votes. What’s your message to those senators?
Homan: The American public elected President Trump with a clear mandate for border security and the removal of public safety threats posed by criminal aliens. This is what the people want. I believe every GOP member should recognize there is no downside to securing the border and addressing public safety concerns. It should transcend party lines; the American people have voiced their desires, and it’s time for the GOP to deliver.
Conradson: You mentioned a potential ICE investigation into the Nashville mayor. Given recent arrests of officials, could we see a sitting Sanctuary City official charged for obstructing ICE?
Homan: That’s ultimately up to the DOJ, but let me reiterate: crossing the line into criminality will lead to prosecution. It’s a matter of whether the DOJ will act on it.
