Powell’s speech will be followed by a Q-and-A session with attendees. This appearance comes on the heels of the Fed’s recent decision to lower interest rates by a quarter percentage point, marking the third consecutive rate cut. The federal funds rate now stands at a range between 4.5% and 4.75%.

Despite the rate cuts, economic indicators this week have shown stubborn inflation rates. Consumer price inflation is at 2.6%, while wholesale prices are at 2.4%. Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, remains considerably higher. These readings suggest that inflation continues to be a significant concern for policymakers.

Market expectations point to another rate cut in December, with a pause likely in January as officials evaluate the impact of previous easing measures. Powell and his colleagues at the Fed are under pressure to strike a balance between supporting economic growth and managing inflationary pressures.
