At around 10 PM ET, New York City officials are set to address the media regarding a tragic shooting incident in Midtown Manhattan that resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including an off-duty police officer.
UPDATE: The press conference commenced at approximately 10:30 PM ET.
The assailant entered the 44-story building at 345 Park Avenue wearing a bulletproof vest and wielding a semiautomatic rifle, opening fire on a police officer before ascending to the 33rd floor, where he ultimately took his own life.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams provided an update from the scene shortly after 8 PM ET.

Iâm here at the intersection of 51st and Park Avenue. Regrettably, we are dealing with a shooting incident that has resulted in multiple injuries. The suspect, who is known to us, has been neutralized at this time. We urge those still in the building to remain indoors while police conduct a thorough search floor by floor. We believe the threat has been contained. We will proceed to the hospital to meet with the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy. Currently, there are multiple injuries, but rest assured the perpetrator has been neutralized.
later identified the shooter as Shane Tamura, a 27-year-old from Las Vegas.
