Minnesota Governor Tim Walz Faces Scrutiny Over Immigration Policies

On Thursday, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz found himself in a politically precarious position during a congressional hearing, as his statements regarding the state’s immigration policies were called into question. His comments led to a significant backlash, particularly from Republican representatives.

As reported by CBS, Walz was one of three Democratic governors—alongside New York’s Kathy Hochul and Illinois’s J.B. Pritzker—who testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee regarding their states’ sanctuary policies. These policies have garnered criticism for allegedly prioritizing undocumented immigrants over U.S. citizens.

In his opening remarks, Walz made contentious claims about Minnesota’s status as a sanctuary state, insisting he had never signed any legislation to that effect. EMMER: “In May 2020, looting, arson, and acts of violence occurred on YOUR watch in Minneapolis after you refused to bring in the National Guard. Governor, your agenda is clear: free healthcare, free driver’s licenses for illegals, while handcuffing law enforcement when they’re trying to protect citizens in our communities.”
