The US rapper faced backlash after promoting the Nazi leader Adolf Hitler through the song on social media and music streaming platforms in May of this year. This incident followed a series of antisemitic remarks made by West on X, where he expressed admiration for Hitler and identified as a Nazi.
Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke explained that while West’s previous offensive comments did not impact his visa status, the release of the song prompted a reevaluation by officials. Burke emphasized that promoting Nazism is unacceptable in Australia, stating, âWe have enough issues in this country without importing bigotry deliberately.â
Despite having family ties in Australia and being a frequent visitor in the past, West’s visa was ultimately cancelled. He married Australian architect Bianca Censori in December 2022.
While the exact date of the visa cancellation was not disclosed, West’s management has not issued a response at this time.
In a similar move, US conservative figure Candace Owens was also banned from entering Australia in October 2024. Burke reiterated that it is in the country’s best interest to keep individuals like Owens out.
