A tramper has been missing in Milford Sound since Sunday after failing to return from a planned day trip to climb Mitre Peak. The search and rescue operation began shortly before midnight on Monday, with Detective Tracy Ward leading a team of resources navigating through challenging terrain with the assistance of helicopter crews.
Unfortunately, the search has been affected by adverse weather conditions, preventing helicopters from flying. Despite this setback, ground teams will continue their search efforts as soon as daylight breaks.
Det Ward emphasized the difficulties of searching in the rugged New Zealand landscape but remained hopeful. While no clues have been found yet, the missing tramper is described as experienced in the outdoors and well-prepared, which could be crucial for his survival.
Authorities are in contact with the man’s next of kin but have not disclosed further details at this time.
